“Then came the most exquisite moment of her whole life…”
Virginia Woolf, from Mrs. Dalloway
I realize that not everyone is fond of Virginia Woolf’s writing, but I found this particular quotation absolutely delicious and quite perfectly captures how I would like to feel about theatre and the arts. I believe that theatre has the potential to be extraordinary, that it has the power to affect you as strongly as the most incredible first kiss. I believe that a book has that same potential; or a painting, a piece of music, a dance performance; perhaps even a haiku.
Here, I plan to write about artistic things that really turn me on; thoughts and experiences that I feel are worth sharing and discussing and contemplating and cherishing. It will be mostly about theatre; but also I’m really getting into dance these days, so there will likely be more of that. And I’ll probably throw in the odd poem.
By the way, the photograph you see above is from a photo shoot I did in the Spring of 2009 called Odd Public Art. This particular photo was taken just outside City Hall and features a piece called Due Process by Ottawa artist Bruce Garner.
